De acordo com Ricardo e Ricardo (2006), no Estado Matogrossense observam\u2010se 45 etnias localizadas em 78 terras ind\u00edgenas, em diferentes fases de regulariza\u00e7\u00e3o. N\u00famero \u00e9tnico ainda controverso, n\u00e3o s\u00f3 em fun\u00e7\u00e3o da aus\u00eancia de registro, como de comunidades isoladas (al\u00e9m de outras n\u00e3o identificadas). Os dados do semin\u00e1rio acrescentaram o povo Canela\/Apanyekra, origin\u00e1rios do estado de Maranh\u00e3o, que ocupam \u00e1reas na regi\u00e3o do Araguaia mato\u2010grossense, nas proximidades com o rio Preto; embora reconhecidos pela FUNAI, esse grupo ainda luta pelo reconhecimento e demarca\u00e7\u00e3o de seu territ\u00f3rio. Tamb\u00e9m foram acrescidos os povos Krenak \u2013 Maxacalli, que vivem tamb\u00e9m na regi\u00e3o do rio Preto, no munic\u00edpio de Cana Brava do Norte, no Araguaia mato\u2010grossense.
